Speeding up by Slowing Down... or Stopping!

The intersection of Highways 106 and 111 north of Tea made the news back in June for increasing traffic congestion. Following the logic of Madison boosters, the solution ought to be expanding the highway to four lanes.

Lincoln County is still considering spending four million dollars to expand its busy highway, but in the mean time, they've hit upon a cheaper, easier solution for the traffic jams: stop lights. And according to KELO, the added stop now makes the commute go faster [Shawn Neisteadt, "Lincoln County Lights Lessen Line Length," KELOLand.com, 2007.09.13 -- and props for alliteration, Shawn!].

Sometimes big money can solve a problem. But as commuters whizzing between Tea and Sioux Falls can attest, sometimes we just need a simple stop light and a reminder to people to use their common sense, stop a moment, and take turns.
