Zaniya Project Publishes Draft Recommendations

No time for heavy analysis, just an alert: South Dakota's Zaniya Project has posted a proposed draft of its recommendations for improving expanding access to health insurance and care. The document includes 22 recommendations. The final draft is due September 30. Take a look, see what you like, see what sounds good and what sounds like bunk. Quick notes:
  1. Big bunk alert: Massachusetts plan! Recommendation #14: mandate for all South Dakotans to buy insurance (what do you expect when our governor is an insurance agent?)
  2. No Canada plan -- no universal coverage.
  3. Expansion of SCHIP eligibility at 300% of poverty level, but some reduced benefits (check that one -- details a bit unclear)
  4. Darn little for Indians: advocate federal policy change, keep studying problems, but no new resources.
