Boo-Hiss Headline, Hoorah Vote on HB 1261

The headline of the week comes from KJAM:

KJAM interim news director Matt Groce has evidently spent too much time with Madison's pathologically punning Pastor Warren Uecker. You can e-mail him your groans and catcalls here.

However, let's also give a hearty cheer... oh, wait, we're Lutherans up here.... Let's give a solemn nod of approval to Senator Knudson who made the motion, Senator Ed Olson who seconded it, and Senators Gary Hanson, Heidepriem, McCracken, Nesselhuf, and Dempster who went along with the vote to kill HB 1261, the superfluous guns-on-campus law. And a final finger waggle at Senator Abdallah, who evidently wasn't listening to the chorus of sensible voices who recognized that this bill was all macho NRA bluster.

Now understand that I don't think the Second Amendment has been harmed one bit. If you are afraid Cuban paratroopers will get the jump on you while you're in your anatomy lab or con law class (never forget Red Dawn -- Красный рассвет!), you could just carry your gun to class in plain sight (probably better just to wear a pistol in a holster on your hip than actually have a shotgun in your hands), wait for a student or prof to report you and campus security to detain you, then challenge the whole thing in court. If the Second Amendment really is on your side, then justice shall prevail, and you'll get the same sanctification of yor right to bear arms to class as this silly law would have scribbled into the books.

  1. Come on Cory, was it really worse than the Argus Leader Headline "Guns-on-campus bill out of ammo"

  2. Well, Mr. Deep Pockets, why don't you bring your shotgun to school and be the test case?

  3. Who needs deep pockets? I'm sure the NRA and Second Amendment Sisters would be more than happy to bankroll this patriotic fight... right?

  4. Thx for letting me know about this over on my blog comments.

BTW, the NRA and most other gun groups do NOT typically fund law suits. Though they will sometimes assist with briefs, the financial burden falls on the individual.

Just wondering, shouldn't a responsible, law-abiding adult be able to carry any place he has a right to be?
