District 8 House -- Lange Seeks Comeback

I just signed a petition for my neighbor Gerry Lange to run as a Democrat for the District 8 House. Gerry says he has a lot of unfinished business in Pierre. And with the Republicans passing an income-based tax, now may be the perfect time for him to return to the Capitol and lead the state the rest of the way to a modern, rational, and moral tax system.

So who's Gerry up against? Well, in our own party, we may have a primary. Dave Gassman is said to have taken out a petition, and term-limited Dan Sutton sounds like he wants to cross the Rotunda to the House. The GOP may field Madison City Commissioner and B&G Trucking owner Jerry Johnson (uh oh -- Gerry vs. Jerry -- can District 8 handle the confusion?). Russ Olson hasn't e-mailed me his intentions yet, but everyone else is betting he's going to try to beat Scott Parsley for the Senate seat.

But Gerry Lange is most definitely in, and from the sparkle in his eye, I conclude he is in to win. Expect a vigorous and envigorating campaign.

So you think you can do better, or do you know someone who's not in yet but should be? Tell us who you think should be in the Legislature! Submit those names as comments here or in the fun and exciting Madville Times District 8 Caucus!

  1. Gerry Lange is a very nice guy. But if he thinks he is going to get elected on the platform of instituting an income tax, come on. And if he does get elected, that old tune will go just as far as it ever did. For those who want an income tax, move to MN and pay all you want!

  2. Politics is ego-driven and addictive. Gerry is still addicted to his own voice and he hasn't accepted the big picture that happened two years ago when he was defeated. Money had nothing to do with it. People felt Gerry had run his course, he was ineffective beating the same old drum in Pierre and it was time for a change. He needs to step back and let the younger generation step forward and trust the system to work. The system will survive without Gerald Lange.

  3. I respect Gerry because he went to Pierre and stood up for what he believed in. Although I did not agree 100% with his policies, I can tip my cap for someone that stands up for their own convictions.

I will take Gerry over Russ any day. At least Gerry has the guts and takes a stand. All Russ is doing is going with the flow keeping our state 51st in everything (except for legislative pay).
