Full Slate for D8 House -- Stricherz Enters Race

The Republicans have filled their ticket in District 8. Patricia K. Stricherz has just joined Jerry Johnson to campaign for the District 8 House seats against Democrats Gerry Lange and Mitch Fargen. Stricherz lists her address as Dell Rapids, but her mailbox appears to be up in Moody County in the Egan-Trent metroplex (hey, Russell -- you're from Egan; friend of yours?). Two on two -- a good fair fight!

Not much available online about Ms. Stricherz: if there is only one Patricia Stricherz in the area, she and her husband are both Gulf War vets* interviewed in March 2007 by KELO about high demand for VA services.

Now if just one more envelope of Republican petitions would show up on Chris Nelson's front step, we could have a primary and get to know Ms. Stricherz all the sooner!

Update 2008.04.02: A little more Googling turns up another document (sorry, PDF format) apparently giving the dates Ms. Stricherz and her husband served in the military:

Stricherz, Jay M
ArmyNG/Army
1979-2004
Stricherz, Patricia K
Army 1992-1995

The Stricherz family played a role in realizing the new Watertown Veterans Memorial dedicated last August on Lake Kampeska.

  1. So, you would like to know Ms. Stricherz, what would you like to know? I have a source that tells me that she and her husband have been foster parents in Brookings county prior to Jay's deployment to Iraq, Patricia has also been a CASA volunteer since 2002, sworn in by Honorable Rodney Steele, Patricia worked as a paralegal before deciding to attend college at USF for Social Work. She also has taken in homeless teens and has helped them to get their feet planted on solid ground, she is a very devote Christian and stands by her values. Anything else you would like to know???

  2. That's great background! Thanks!

There's plenty more I'd like to know, if you've got the time and the info: contact information, positions on the issues (any issues, you pick where to start!), you name it. And if your source has a website for Stricherz, send it along, and I'll link it on the main page!

  3. Stricherz website is in the making and not up and running yet.
Issues: Well...from what I know: she is tossed on the hyperion oil refinery that is being considered in Elk Point. She lived in Cheyenne Wy. as a teenager and has said a number of times that the smell was unbearable, the cancer/population ratio within a 60 mile radius is high, and she doesn't want that for South Dakota. She agrees that there needs to be alternate fuel choices that are cleaner and less expensive, would like to see the oil companies be given a cap as to how much they can charge the public for fuel, she thinks theres something very wrong when oil co. are making record profits and the price of gas is outrageous. She is also concerned about the pipeline coming through S.D. for several reasons, safety to community and environment, and eminent domain issues.
Education.....she believes that education is vital for our children and would like to see more Masters programs in the state as well as more jobs to keep our young people here. Which brings us to the cost of living and pay wage. Doesn't exactly balance..if you see where she is coming from. If you were to keep a ledger of income vs. expenses, she is concerned that every citizen would end up in the red by one degree or another.
BIG on veterans issues, huge advocate for human rights, and has a desire to start a non-profit organization to assist low income families with transportation issues.
She doesn't like to make this known...but since you did ask.....she has taken in teenagers as I stated before....she has also given money to strangers in the grocery store if she hears them struggling to buy food on their budget. She will take a twenty or so out of her wallet...walk around the corner to where she overheard them talking and ask if they dropped that. Generally people are more than happy to accept money whether its theirs or not.
Oh...how I know this...because I have been with her when she has done it....I am one of the girls she has taken in. If it wasn't for her I don't know where I would be today. She helped me to get off of drugs and alcohol, taught me about Jesus Christ and I feel so close to her that I consider her to be a mom to me. Trust me....she's unlike any other human being that I have ever known. My brothers and sisters are jealous that I could be given such a wonderful person in my life..and she welcomes them in her home as well and lets my neices and nephews call her grandma.
Oh...more back ground info...I just called to ask her...she was the president and management VP for the Jaycees when she moved back home after the army, from 1995 - 2000. SHe was also the Family Readiness Leader for her husband's guard unit when they were deployed to Iraq in 2003-2004.
Her campaign slogan is one I have heard her say for the last 4 years..No isn't an answer, but a challenge. And she means it! She gets fired up on an issue and doesn't stop until she gets the result she feels should have occured in the first place. Her pet peeve is someone starting a job and not finishing it...any job. whether it's yard work or employment or community service.
Contact info...she listed in the phone book.

  4. Okay, in my defense, obviously anonymous (mimi) needs a lesson in humility. She means well, just proud of her mom.
Now a note from Patricia Stricherz...I decided to run for office because I have a background that has allowed me to be an advocate for people and their needs, as well as sometimes their rights.
After our National Guard Soldiers started returning home from the first rotation to Iraq, I started hearing of homes, jobs, businesses being lost, either from their deployment or injuries as a result of that deployment, and it outraged me.
Despite the way mimi makes me sound, I am not in line for Sainthood, but do my part as any good neighbor would.
Yes, my husband and I have had our share of setbacks and loss over the years, but what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger. I refuse to run a campaign that is judgmental, self righteous, or demeaning in any way. We all have made our share of mistakes and none of us have the right to point a finger at anyone, just remember...there's always three pointing back.
So, Mr. Heidlberger, if you would like to get to know me, email me at jpstricherz@goldenwest.net and I will be sure to answer your questions the best that I can. If you would like to see whats the most important in my life then I have a family blog that you can go to to take a quick peek. That is at www.yahoo360/ikway.com my campaign web site is slow in the making, but I'll get there.
    God Bless
    Patricia Stricherz

  5. Mr. Heidelberger
I take great offense to your "secular humanist" comment.

By saying that you,are implying that my morals and values are without God.

How dare you even joke about something like that. My spiritual relationship is of great importance to me and I do not sit well with anyone talking with such disrespect!

  6. For those of you wondering what Ms. Stricherz is steamed about, I placed quoted her daughter's comment and offered my own bracketed observation in a later post:

"...she believes that education is vital for our children and would like to see more Masters programs in the state [ed: don't let Sibby hear that: he'll think Stricherz is trying to create more secular humanists...]"

I don't think Ms. Stricherz got it. Expect even more secular humanist jokes as the election approaches. Yahoo!
