Among all the little robins and sparrows twittering and flittering about my muddy yard, another little bird comes by to mention that outgoing school board member Rod Goeman is circulating his petitions to make another run for the Lake County Commission. This comes as no surprise, of course, for faithful Madville Times readers, who know that the Rod Goeman campaign site was updated for 2008 way back in October.
So with five days to go until the petition deadline, we have five candidates for the three four-year terms available on the county commission: incumbent Craig Johanssen (D), City Commissioner Dan Bohl (R), DSU Foundation president Chris Giles (R), and Scott Pederson (R), and now Goeman... hey! He's a Republican too! We have a primary! Yahoo!
But Dems, come out, come out, wherever you are! County commission may not be big partisan potatoes, but we can't let the Republicans have all the fun. You have until Tuesday -- plenty of time to gather those signatures (21 is all you need, Dems -- but check that number with our auditor Kay). The more the merrier, so hop to it!

So a friend of mine made this rap a few years back, and I have to tell you
I have friends over the years who went there and tell the same boring
stories, LOL.

ReplyDeleteCory, I heard another petition circulating around the area also. His name is Roger Hagmeman. He is running under the republican ticket. I would like to see another democrate run for this seat so that we can have a good primary. It would be nice to get to the issues with Lake County. Development, employment, working with other areas, such as the City of Madison, LAIC. We need a good representative from the commission to be on the LAIC board, so that something don't happen to them again like the funding issue.
ReplyDeleteI am all for the issues in Lake County and wanting to hear from the current Craig Johannson on how to can solve the needs of Lake County along with the other republican candidates.
There will be a June Primary for the Democratic Presidential race regardless if there is a Republican or Democratic County Commission primary, so the same faces will be working anyway. Might as well have both parties stopping at the polls in June. Brings more people to their hometowns-Economic Development?
ReplyDeleteAnon 7:48: Yeah, but everyone knows if you want to make money, you need Republicans to show up. :-D Hooray for primaries on both sides!
ReplyDeleteCory, don't even get us started on who has the money in this country...John Kerry and his lovely Heinz wife? The millionaire Clintons? Tom Daschle and his lovely lobbyist wife? Come on, that's old hat junk. There's plenty of money on both sides of the political aisle. Don't let your perception of democratic money be based on your old pal, Gerry Lange's spending habits!
ReplyDeleteO.K., o.k., I agree: both national parties are tools of the plutocracy.
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to take a look at the money/party breakdown on the state level. Put all the registered Republicans in Lake County in one room, all the registered Dems in a second, and all the registered Independents in a third, and count up their money.
But it would be even more interesting to see a couple more Dems and Indeps turn in petitions on Tuesday and make some big races happen for County Commission and State Legislature. Not that the Parsley-Olson battle won't be interesting enough, but I still say, the more the merrier!
Besides, more candidates means more people saying things I can blog about! ;-)
KJAM says the Hageman filed today.
