Lake County Commission Candidates and That Crazy State Website

Yesterday brought an info-tech crisis of minuscule proportions. No voters disenfranchised, no names left off the ballot, just a little confusion as to who's who in the Lake County Commission race. For a while, it looked like Chris Nelson was telepathic, entering Rod Goeman as an official candidate a day before he actually turned in his petitions. The official candidate list was also showing Democrat Gene Anderson as an Independent and Craig Johanssen and Scott Pedersen as both having clones joining them in the race.

Kay Schmidt, Lake county Auditor, returned my call yesterday afternoon and confirmed that she had Anderson down as a Democrat. She sounded surprised, maybe even concerned that I had been able to access whatever working data they had about the candidates. I assured her there's not hacking on my end -- I'm just reading the Secretary of State's official public candidate list.

This morning, all appears to be fixed. We have two Democrats running for county commission and five Republicans. No Independents or Greens, no clones. Thank you, data-entry clerks, wherever you are, for keeping things straight.

  1. So is Goeman running or not? You said he's running, KJAM says he's running, but the snooze-paper hasn't said a thing about it. Is the Daily Leader falling behind or did they forget again like the City Pool Bond advertisement in December.

  2. The candidate list you see in the right sidebar here is correct. Goeman is in. I get my info straight from the Secretary of State's official candidate list.
