Take this for what it's worth: a little Facebook wall chatter suggests Mitch Fargen of the SD Farmers Union. "I have a petition out," says Fargen, "but my board still has to approve it and I'm not sure if Dave Gassman is running yet."
With the deadline of March 25 fast approaching, there's not much time left for waiting to see if the the other guy makes his move, especially with only one filed candidate for District 8 House so far. Better get those signatures now, Mitch, and be ready to head to the courthouse, regardless of what the other fellas have in mind.
Quick bio of the potential candidate: new SDFU membership coordinator and legislative assistant (as of Nov. 2007), graduated SDSU (Go Jacks!) with degrees in Business Econ and PoliSci, interned for Johnson and Herseth (Farmers Union newsletter, 2007.11.27).
And a quick Senate note: Scott Parsley is officially a candidate for District 8 Senate as of today! Secretary of State Chris Nelson has Scott's petitions, and Scott is on the official list of candidates.
I have been telling council this stuff for over a decade
