Potential District 7 Senate candidate Pat Powers is running up against the wall known as Easter: five days left to get signatures and file for office, and four of them are the Easter holiday. Yikes! That's what we get for waiting until the last minute.
I was able to round up more than enough signatures for the school board run in 48 hours, but then I also wasn't making the rounds during a high Christian holiday. I also didn't have to differentiate among different party members; school board candidates just need signatures from registered voters. Gerry Lange and Scott Parsley got the jump on everyone, so they can sit back and enjoy the long weekend (and the long church services every night at St. Thomas and St. John's). But those of you still circulating (here in District 8, that would be Jerry Johnson, Russell Olson, Mitch Fargen... anyone else?), you have some holiday hustle ahead.
So, neighbors, if you see some stranger come knocking on your door this weekend, don't turn them away. They're probably just friendly and aspiring public servants out on an Easter signature hunt. Check your party registration, then give 'em some love and some ink. Every petition you sign gets us more choices on the ballot, and that's a very good thing.
