Hillary Clinton gets a small South Dakota boost this morning, as one of her big-name supporters, General Wesley Clark, signs on as the keynote speaker at McGovern Day, the big SD Democratic Party shindig on April 19. Clinton has some fervent supporters here, and I was reminded that Bill Clinton came here four times during his presidency (that's more, I think, than GW Bush has come to this state that voted for him twice).
The Obama camp has just named the energetic Nathan Peterson its South Dakota state campaign director -- let's get cracking, Nate, and line up some Obama speeches!
Is Hillary coming or is she just sending a spokesman? South Dakotan's deserve the candidates themselves, not their supporters. Ours is a hand shaking, face to face state and sending a speaker to represent her tells me, "We're not big enough for her to care about." Who cares about Wesley Clark?
ReplyDeleteI agree: I want face time with both candidates, live and in-person. (note to both campaigns: come to Madison, I'll give you wall-to-wall blog coverage!)
ReplyDeleteNow we might be hard-pressed to get them to come here before Pennsylvania's primary (Apr 22). Then again, Obama has time to stop in ND Friday on his way to Montana; maybe he'll come back through on I-90!
I would have figured Gen. Wes as a fellow Man Crushee. Too bad.
