Green Bullhead Gaining on Grey Lady

KELO notes -- maybe with glee, maybe with fear for its own mainstream media dominance -- that The New York Times Company posted a net loss of $335,000 last quarter. Classified ad revenues dropped 22%. CEO Sam Zell "expects double-digit declines in print advertising this quarter."

Your favorite Lake Herman media giant (um, that's me) happily accepts a fair share of the blame for the collapse of the mainstream media. The Madville Times continues to enjoy steady growth. 1500 unique visitors a week -- that's almost as many readers as the Moody and Miner County papers! And people pay good money to advertise in those papers... hint! :-D

Keep reading, friends -- I'll keep writing!

  1. Every year it will get worse for newspapers as electronic media become the news and information source of choice for younger folks. Nobody wants to wait for a wad of paper to arrive. Young people don't subscribe, they go on-line for information or watch TV and listen to radio. Newspaper is dying and as subsriber's age and die, it will only get worse. That's why you see so much video and audio on newspaper websites. They are quickly becoming TV and Radio Stations on their websites.
