KJAM Fights TV with Family Fun

It's not surprise that again this year, the biggest promoter of TV Turnoff Week (April 21-27) here in Madison is our local radio station, KJAM. But hey, no criticism here! I love it when free market self-interest and service to the community coincide.

And KJAM isn't just saying, "Turn off the TV and listen to us!" They're organizing all sorts of healthy outdoor family activities to get people up off the couch. KJAM is hosting a different event each evening next week:
  1. Monday: big walk and chat on the new bike trail
  2. Tuesday: kick ball at Baughman Park
  3. Wednesday: community bike ride on the bike trail (I'm envisioning Matt Hendrickson on two wheels playing playing Marlon Brando in The Wild Ones)
  4. Thursday: whiffle ball at Baughman Park
  5. Friday: family swim at the Community Center
Like TV, each event is free. Unlike TV, each event gives you a chance to exercise and interact with all sorts of neighbors. Who can beat that?

Now if we could just organize a good Gasoline Turnoff Week....
