As voting continues here in Madison and all across South Dakota, the Madville Times polls (the only voter research of any kind conducted by the Lake County media -- you're welcome!) indicate that Madville Times readers think Dick Ericsson is the clear favorite in the City Commission race. He received votes from 77% of reeaders asked to indicate who they think will win today's election. Monica Campbell edged Scott Delzer for second place, with 27 votes to his 22. Kelli Brown pulled only 3.
Take heart, Kelli -- I thought you said all the right things at the candidates' forum on Thursday, and your significant record of involvement in community activities (getting Totland Park built, serving on the pool committee and the planning committee) in just four years of living here in Madison says a lot. But when asked to predict who will win the election, my readers seem to give the edge to the older candidates.
Ah, but that thinking does not appear to hold in the school board poll I conducted here. The youngest guy in the race (that's me) comes in ahead with 36 out of 59 votes (61% -- and I only clicked my name once, honest!). Jay Niedert is a close second with 33 votes. Zingmark pulled 20 votes, and Weist 14.
Heidelberger opponents, take heart: I come out just barely ahead on a poll conducted on my own website. Yikes! One could speculate that in the general vote, I'll get creamed! Of course, the comments I've received from you readers appear to represent a fair sampling of supporters, opponents, and folks in between just trying to figure out the best way to vote.
Of course, we all know that an online poll is hardly worth the paper it's written on. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if you readers have been able to call the election correctly, and to hear your opinions on how the election goes.
In the meantime, polls are open for four more hours. If you haven't voted yet, what are you waiting for? Put down the blog and go vote! Downtown City Armory! Let's see some hustle!

So a friend of mine made this rap a few years back, and I have to tell you
I have friends over the years who went there and tell the same boring
stories, LOL.

I wish Kelli Brown the best of luck. I really think she could do a lot (more) for the City. Hope she does well today.
ReplyDeleteAnd there's still a few hours left to make that happen! Call your friends, give 'em rides to the polls!
ReplyDeleteI'm really interested to see what the voter turnout is today. It really irritates me when I see the percentages of most elections.
ReplyDeleteVoting is the cornerstone of our democracy, and it always seems few people actually do it.
So you are right, everyone get to the polls and vote!
