Palin Bounce? Not for Young in Alaska House Race

Palin may excite the base, but that's not helping Don Young, her state's incumbent GOP Congressman. He just eked out a primary victory over Palin's choice, Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell (who's passing on a recount since he seems to be having too much fun playing Gov. while his boss is off making speeches). But a poll taken right after Palin's selection as McCain's right-hand woman found him trailing Democratic challenger Ethan Berkowitz 54–37. (A DailyKos poll taken this week shows Young bumping up to trail just 53–39... but as my commenters will tell you, DailyKos is junk.)

Boy, looks like another example of Palin not being able to do much to help a septuagenarian Washington veteran beat an energetic 40-something Harvard grad.

  1. OK, well, not that it will matter to you, but Don Young is one of the crooked GOP power structure that Palin took on. (I thought you guys loved that sort of thing.) Young has been in office forever, so the fact he "eked" out a win says something.

    More important:
"Looks like another example of Palin not being able to do much to help a septuagenarian Washington veteran beat an energetic 40-something Harvard grad."

Replace "Palin" with "Daschle," and keep the "40-something Harvard grad thing," and you've got the SDDEM primary. The combined endorsements of the sainted Tom, Tim, and Steffi couldn't deliver, either.
