Candidate Downs Says Locals Know Best

Madison City Commission candidate Myron Downs is working hard to win the Madville Times vote... and I don't even get to vote! Downs tells KJAM that the city should use local people for its various studies, rather than, I assume relying so often on outside consultants who do their windshield tours, write up generic reports, and take big chunks of city cash out of town, of not out of state.

Who would have thought Downs was reading one of my most eggheaded posts of the past few months?

Perhaps Downs will also advocate that those studies be made available to everyone in the community, without cost, so the whole community can check that information and, if it really is valuable, put it to work.

  1. Candidate Downs also said in his previous unsuccessful campaign that he feels the people of Madison should vote on most issues. That way the Commissioners don't have to make decisions or be accountable. He likes to see poll results before he votes. Ask him what he stands for and he may reply, "What would you like me to stand for?"

  2. The Madison area housing study was paid for in part by a $20,000 grant from Citibank. Anyone ever contact Citibank to request a copy of the study or at least let them know it has not been made publicly available as of yet? There's no reason that report shouldn't be available through City Hall or on file at the Public Library.

  3. I don't know, Anon 9:16: I've known Myron for a long time, and I've never heard him be wishy-washy like that with me. He's usually pretty direct about what he stands for, even when he disagrees completely with what I have to say.

  4. My experience with Myron is he has his own mind and a handle on our local politics. I would rather see the community make some of the larger decisions by a vote.
