The Madison Central School Board will be busy tonight... unlike the school district itself on the day of the 2010 Mundt Debate Tournament. As I peruse the agenda, I notice the 2009-2010 calendar included in the student handbook being submitted for board approval. It includes February 12, opening day of Mundt, among the days off.
Now hang on: MHS principal Sharon Knowlton told us that the school took the day off to accommodate the tournament, a move she made, as she told me, because a student in a wheelchair had trouble getting on the bus because of all the Mundt traffic in the afternoon. But with the tournament moved to DSU, the high school-middle school complex, the best site in town for a debate tournament, will stand empty on that Friday afternoon.
But hey, far be it from me to complain. With the day off, at least all the teachers from school district will be available for the Mundt judge pool!
