Cause for Thanks: Spock Replaces Riley in White House

Dithering? No, John, that's called thinking.

Dr. Newquist hit a similar theme at the beginning of the month. Now Ned Hodgman reads Joel Achenbach's Washington Post assessment of President Barack Obama's Spock-like decision-making and leadership and offers this Thanksgiving thought:

The world is too complicated a place for even the best fact-based analysis to work every time. But logical, reasoned inquiry and decision-making are part of a process that can build on itself, like scientific inquiry. And when “mistakes are made,” it’s easier to find out where and why.

So let’s be thankful our present president favors his brain over other parts of his anatomy in making decisions. This makes him different from at least a couple of his predecessors [Ned Hodgman, "A Healthy Serving of Facts: Obama's Rigorous Approach to Decision-Making," Understanding Government, 2009.11.25].

There's no turkey in that thinking. Stay cool, stay Vulcan, Mr. President.

If Obama is so smart, then why did he fall for the Global Warming myth that has now been exposed by the emails of those who have created the myth?

What we should be thankful for is the truth. Now go and search for it.

  3. Cory,

True leadership requires surrounding yourself with intelligent adivisers who are not afraid of telling you that you are wrong and then to lead you must have a large set of that other part of your anatomy to follow through.

Sadly, the President has surrounded himself with people who would rather say, "Right on Barrack" rather than "No, Mr President".

America and Madison are full of self described leaders whose only goal is to be liked and have half wits call them leaders cause they do what the half wits like and not what is ethically right.

We have a President, who although has the potential to be one of America's greatest, still relishes the trampings of the office of the President of the United States and has surrounded himself with people who encourage him to behave that way because they too are enjoying the power that comes from being an advisor to the most powerful man in the world.

I just wish he would come to understand who he is, a very uncommon man, and start behaving that way.

And on this Thanksgiving Day, although our nation is facing problems unprescedented in our history, she is stll the greatest nation in the world and we have much more to be thankful for than citizens of any other nation, and like it or not, be also thankful that God still has a special place for us as a nation.

Happy Thanksgiving Day and "Go Packers".

  4. Just curious, Joseph: do you have some evidence of the yes-man nature of the Obama Cabinet? And how do you square that thesis with the President's right-hand man, VP Biden, who is notorious for saying things that don't agree with the White House line? Isn't that why Obama chose Biden, to be an occasional contrary voice? Now that's smart leadership!

    Cory,

Biden is telling us the truth about the real agenda of Obama's "Change". Not the one that only Kool Aid drinkers believe, and what they want the rest of us to believe. And you need to be a Kool Aid drinker to be in Obama's control & command center.

  6. Cory,

Didn't have time to respond sooner because I haven,t been feeling to well, but

    The Jay Leno Show.

    Saturday nite live.

    The Hollywood star mentality.

The indeciveness or unwillingness to make a decision until there is no choice and then still trying to make everyone happy.

Joe Biden is President Obama's Spiro Agnew, most likely without the crimes.

Advisers who constantly blame someone else when their solutions don't work. They are in charge not George Bush.

And the biggest and most shameful of all, the war in Afghanistan. In his word's "the right war" but a war he has not been willing to committ too.

I could go on and on but people choose to believe what they choose to believe.

I have had many years expierience evaluating leadership and management in organizations, and to toot my own horn, am very good at it, everything I cited is indicative of a failure to understand what leadership encompasses by a support staff and of a "leader" who wishes to be popular rather than lead.
