Here's today's lesson on why you can't believe everything you read on the Internet. Noem Insurance Inc. makes the following statement on its Facebook page about the birthplace of its owners:
Owners Bryon and Krisit [sic] Noem were born and raised in Hamlin County and are raising their three children here. They enjoy getting to know their insureds and finding the best coverage for their situations.
But Wikipedia says that Kristi Lynn Arnold Noem was born in Charleston, South Carolina.
Now I will grant that being born in South Carolina might explain a genetic predisposition toward crazy, crazy politics. But obviously, someone here is wrong. I can't imagine the Noems would make a mistake on the Web. It's more likely Wikipedia is wrong... since we all know that Wikipedia, a website that can be edited by anyone, is part of the vast left-wing conspiracy. (But Conservapedia doesn't have a Kristi Noem page yet, so what am I supposed to read?)
Fortunately, this question is mostly about proofreading, not qualification for office. Whatever quirk of fate dictated where Kristi Lynn Arnold entered the world, she's clearly inhabited our fair state for some time since then.
Still, I like to know which websites to trust. I also wonder if Lori Stacey will demand Noem's birth certificate....
