Did I say Noem lies? No... but I'm tempted....
Hey, if the Noem campaign can put up a fake anonymous blog, so can the Herseth Sandlin people. And at least the Dems (a) save money by using Blogger and (b) tell the truth!
Exhibit A on "Kristi vs. Kristi": Noem's misleading guns flyer that pretends to have the National Rifle Association's endorsement.
I received this flyer in my mailbox last week and wondered what the NRA thinks of Noem's using the NRA logo when the NRA is clearly behind Herseth Sandlin. Noem's only gun rights endorsement comes from a few stray gun nuts who want to carry firearms in kindergartens, courthouses, and bars. If I ran a nationwide organization that endorsed a candidate, and that candidate's opponent then co-opted our brand and logo and portrayed them as a stamp of approval on their propaganda, I'd be irate. But maybe that's just me being oversensitive....
Note also Noem's slick use of language, avoiding any mention of Herseth Sandlin's "A" rating with the NRA. (I got two more flyers in my box today that try to make me think Nancy Pelosi is on the South Dakota ballot.) Noem also stretches the heading about hunting: she ignores Herseth Sandlin's status as a fellow hunter and gunowner by inserting the adjective "lifelong."
By the way, that back image there...
...Did Noem check with her brother-in-law to make sure none of those critters were poached? And there's that NRA logo again. Oh, the word/image games Noem plays....
Falls Park or The Falls? What’s the difference?

So a few weeks ago I was riding thru Falls Park (I usually do a couple
rides a day thru DTSF just to see what projects are going) and I noticed
the new sig...

It's not what you say, it's how you say it, right?
ReplyDeleteFocus on the misrepresentation of our local County Commission newspaper ads.
Former commissioner, Craig Johannsen, is running ads that say, "Re-Elect Commissioner Johannsen". Hmmmm. He's a former commissioner, not currently serving. He lost his last bid.
Is "Re-elect" proper wording or is it deceptive? Does it make voters unfairly feel he is an incumbent?
You may want to beat on Noem for stretching, but the real news is in Lake County's Commission race.
I think Noem is telegraphing here... showing her weaknesses. Her internal polling probably shows that she loses votes over SHS's NRA endorsement and is trying to siphon off votes from voters who don't know about it.
ReplyDeleteAnyone not following the race carefully and who is just starting to pay attention would think that Kristi got the NRA endorsement, not Stephanie.
Thus, Kristi is intentionally misleading those whom she presumes to represent. Very deceptive.
It sends the message "I will mislead you if I think it will help me politically."
Not good.
Such Outrage!!! SHS and Kristi Noem both have an "A" rating from the NRA. Kristi is a member of the NRA. Kristi has an "A" rating from the SDGOA and the NAGR, SHS has a "D" rating from the SDGOA and the NAGR. You might want to check out why. The NRA heavily favors incumbents in endorsing candidates because they are a pro-establishment lobby because they are part of the Beltway crowd now. Why else would they have considered endorsing Harry Reid and backed the "Disclosure" bill in Congress. Self-promotion is never attractive. It's SHS that misrepresents herself as a South Dakota resident, a moderating voice that has reined in Pelosi...that's a real stretch when she votes with the California Queen 90%.
ReplyDeleteIs the Constitution hanging by a thread, Ed?
ReplyDeleteEd, stop lying: Stephanie and family live in Brookings. If Noem is so great, why does she have to twist the truth so? Co-opting the NRA seal (twice!) when they have endorsed the other candidate is dishonest, is it not? And again, why is the NRA divine until it endorses the person you don't want for Congress?
ReplyDeleteBill, yes, her willingness to distort the truth is habitual and disturbing.
And Rod, I need to see that ad! Someone hand me a paper!
Larry: YES...courtesy of Obama/Redi/Pelosi.
ReplyDeletecaheideberger: Caution with those words, sonny!!! Namecalling is the tool of the ignorant. Where I come from your mouth would surely get you in a world of hurt. Your humble apology sincerely presented will suffice. Otherwise stand opposed and take your chances. Now on to an answer. Now we all know that SHS has a house in Brookings, a house in DC and a house in Texas. But where is home? How many days has she spent at her house in Brookings? Are you a personal friend? How many days in Texas? Do you really know or do you just spew the party line? Both SHS and Kristi Noem have an "A" rating from the NRA. Are you a member of the NRA? If so, did you "co-opt" a sticker on your car? The NRA is far from divine. The NRA is a single-issue advocacy group that now has become part of the elite Beltway crowd. They want to dictate now. They tried to endorse Reid but couldn't stand the heat from the membership so they backed off. Take off those SHS glasses and take a real look at the facts. Your girl is outclassed and you know it in your heart of hearts but go ahead and blow on.....but keep a civil tongue in your head.
Ed, I didn't call you names. I said you're lying, and calling a lie a lie is perfectly civil (unless you are ready to declare your pal Bob Ellis unfit for civil discourse as well for his blog slogan).
ReplyDeleteStephanie lives here. She's a South Dakota resident and citizen. Get back to the real issues and stop with the other-izing propaganda.
But thank you for declaring the NRA irrelevant Beltway elitists. I'll remember that during the upcoming legislation when we get another guns-on-campus bill and during the next election.
tasesClever parsing of words but the fact is when you say I lie, you are saying I am a liar. Go dazzle somebody else with your linguistic brio. So SHS lives here because you say so? You are just omniscient aren't you? Sorry, I don't accept your hypothesis as fact just because you say so. After your little outburst of slime, and your lack of apology, I don't believe you. SHS's residency IS an issue. And you don't have to thank me for the NRA truth, it's just the truth. Still waiting for that apology.
ReplyDeleteI just looked at the NRA endorsements page. Mrs. Noem is listed as having an A rating by the NRA. So is Mrs. Sandlin. They even list why they are backing her.
ReplyDeleteCopied from http://www.nrapvf.org/upcoming-elections/South-Dakota.aspx:
Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act -- Cosponsored and voted for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act that prevents attempts to bankrupt the American gun industry through bogus lawsuits
District of Columbia Personal Protection Act -- Cosponsored and voted for the Second Amendment Enforcement Act and District of Columbia Personal Protection Act that would repeal the D.C. gun ban/registration statute and restore the right of self-defense to law-abiding residents of our nation's capital
Heller Case -- Signed the pro-gun congressional "friend of the court" brief in the 2008 Heller case supporting the Second Amendment as an individual right and striking down the gun ban in our nation's capital
McDonald Case -- Signed the pro-gun congressional "friend of the court" brief in the McDonald case supporting the position that the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right that protects all Americans
Holder Letter -- Signed the letter to Attorney General Eric Holder with 64 other House Democrats expressing opposition to the reenactment of the failed 1994 Clinton ban on semi-automatic firearms and ammunition magazines
BATFE Reform -- Cosponsored and voted for legislation to force much-needed reform of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE)
Right-to-Carry Reciprocity -- Cosponsored the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act that would extend federal protection of state right to carry licenses and permits across the country
Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act -- Voted for the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act that prohibits gun confiscation during states of emergency as happened after Hurricane Katrina
Veterans' Heritage Firearms Act -- Cosponsored the Veterans' Heritage Firearms Act that would provide an amnesty period during which veterans and their family members could register firearms acquired overseas between 1934 and 1968 without fear of prosecution
Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act -- Cosponsored the Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act that would allow interstate sale of handguns subject to NICS
Protecting Gun Owners in Bankruptcy Act -- Voted for the Protecting Gun Owners in Bankruptcy Act, which would ensure that a person who filed for bankruptcy would not lose their firearms, thereby maintaining the fundamental right to self-defense
Right-to-Carry in Parks -- Voted last year for allowing carry license or permit holders to carry and transport firearms for self-defense in national parks and wildlife refuges
Hunting Heritage -- Voted to protect hunting, fishing, trapping and recreational shooting on public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management
So it does come down to how the facts are being presented and what is being left out.
Ed, I can tell you are friends with Bob Ellis. You guys love sowing doubt by relativism when it suits your purpose. Your comment is equivalent to saying, "So I should believe the sky is blue just because you say so?"
ReplyDeleteThe sky is blue. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin and her family live in Brookings. Look it up. Or go to Brookings and ask her neighbors, like Roger and Betty Prunty. (But I suppose you'll accuse the Pruntys of pretending to omniscience and engaging in liguistic brio, too, since they don't agree with the false narrative you're trying to keep alive.)
SHS's residency is no more of an "issue" than Barack Obama's birth certificate. (Oh, but wait, I see the rhetorical pattern now. DOn't bother with truth; just scream and holler that the person we're trying to beat in the election isn't one of us!)
[Speaking of linguistic brio: I don't think you can level that as a criticism against me when you hang out with Shad Olson. Have you heard his vocabulary?]
But just so we're clear: we're all agreeing that the NRA is an irrelvant bunch of Beltway elitists, right? I do have to thank you, Ed, because when I say that in any future political discussion, I want to be able to say, "Don't just take my word for it; listen to conservatives like Ed Randazzo."
It's not parsing, Ed. I said you are lying. That's not name calling; that's an accurate description of your behavior. Deal with it. Better yet, quit it.
And your reply is better applied to the Noem flyer. Noem and campaign mismaestro Josh Shields are parsing like crazy, splitting hairs on words on images to cover up the misrepresentation they are trying to spread.
Cory, sorry about the multiple posts, each time I tried it said it rejected to post. So if you could get rid of them I'd appreciate it.
ReplyDelete[Hi, Jim! Sorry about that: Blogger's been giving me the same error. Does it tell you "Request too large"? If so, ignore it. Every time I get it after hitting "Publish Comment," I just return to the post and comments, and there the comment is. If I hear of a solution, I'll pass it on!]
ReplyDeleteFollowing the advice on the flier you posted I also went to www.votesmart.org, to see what it was referring to. I get to the page for SHS and see this notice before they list their opnions:
ReplyDeleteProject Vote Smart does not permit the use of its name or programs in any campaign activity, including advertising, debates, and speeches.
From my understanding it's web site would be considered both part of it's name and programs.
Stephanie got the NRA endorsement and Kristi didn't, it's as simple as that!
ReplyDeleteGary Monson
It doesn't get any simpler than that, Gary. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd say Kristi used the NRA loga because she actually is a dues paying member of the NRA, unlike her opponent.
ReplyDeleteStephanie is just a hunter during election years.
