Tough Gear!

Perry Groten (or the kids in KELO's Web department) decorates his report about the natural gas explosion that leveled Midwest Clutch and Auto Repair in Rapid City last night with the graphic you see here.

Um, Perry, it was a shop explosion, not the Allied assualt on Anzio.

Groten does embed this gem at the bottom:

While the blast destroyed the brick building, firefighters say equipment inside can be salvaged [Perry Groten, "Explosion Destroys Rapid City Business," KELOLand.com, 2009.03.14].

Whatever that equipment was, I want some! Call the manufacturer—there's an ad here!

Rapid City Journal is on the scene with more details here—still no mention of who built the bomb-proof tool kits.

Perry Groten, Good Egg

The headline of the weekend comes from the inimitable Perry Groten at KELO:

Oh, the subversive wit! Perry, I'm serious: I know you've got to pay the bills, but we could use your quirky, curious intellect in the South Dakota blogosphere.

Promote Perry Groten to the Blogosphere

Perry Groten needs to blog. TV news is just too confining a medium for his curiosity and creativity. Who else at KELO can come up with a headline like "Our Father, Who Art Online"? (It's about GodTube.) Given his November story on atheism, perhaps Groten could bust loose and start a blog on religion. Just enough quirkiness slips into some of his reports (cf. Perry Groten, Easy Rider at the Kingswood rummage sale) that I can only imagine the wild abandon with which Groten might cover South Dakota if fully freed from the filter of KELO on-air gravitas.

Give Perry a blog, KELO... he might even get more hits than Todd!
