Palin Reveals Psychic Powers

Worried about government surveillance? Evidently the McCain-Palin ticket won't need wiretaps and cameras to snoop on your everyday affairs: Homeland Security will just have VP Palin read your mind:

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said Friday she thinks Barack Obama regrets not making Hillary Rodham Clinton his running mate.

Palin praised Clinton's "determination, and grit and even grace" during the Democratic primaries, sounding an altogether different note than when she suggested earlier this year that the New York senator was whining about negative press coverage and campaigning in a way that was not advancing the cause of women in politics.

"I think he's regretting not picking her now," Palin told ABC News. [Beth Fouhy, "Palin Says Obama Regrets Bypassing Clinton," AP via Yahoo News, 2008.09.13].

Psychic powers? Or more wishful thinking from the GOP? What next, trying to hypnotize us into thinking "change" means "keep the status quo"?

  1. Let me simplify this for you. ALL the democratic heads are kicking themselves for not picking Clinton. Half of you picked Clinton, the other half Obama, yet Obama didn't want to share the glory of being elected on a Black AND Woman ticket. Many "well-read" democrats compare him to to Jesus Christ (they say the original community organizer, oops except there is a pretty substantial bible verse stating the opposite), yet he and his party continue to believe that he's the Messiah. Oh yeah, except Biden, even he conceded that Hillary would have been a better pick, check your search engines, boys. His head is so full of himself, he's not in this for you guys, he's in it for himself, and there WAS NO WAY he was going to pick Clinton, due to that fact. He will be brought down by his ego as many have before.

  2. Clarification: Some of my post was deleted, Biden stated that Hillary would be a better pick for VP than him, yet felt that Obama didn't have enough experience to be President. (2 different searches, 2 different speeches, boys.)

  3. Anon, you sound like a Palin Pit Bull. Please don't bite. When listening to what Obama says with those good communication skills his rationale makes sense. I'm supporting him because he has a brain, shares his logic, and is not divisive like Hillary Clinton, who would have made it difficult to work with Republicans on the best ideas for the country.

  4. anon 1:06 doesn't sound like a pitbull, just another "barracuda" - "one that uses aggressive, selfish, and sometimes unethical methods to obtain a goal" - Merriam Webster

  5. With all you psychics out there, I was wondering if you can read Hillary's mind and find out if she actually wanted to have the VP spot.

I don't believe we've heard her actually speak on the subject.

  6. Maybe Hillary didn't want the VP and maybe Obama didn't choose her for his running mate, because she would have more power as a future Senate Majority Leader. In fact, she would be the second most powerful person in the world in that position, which would make her the most powerful woman in the world. Not bad.

  7. I think anon 1:06 is dead on. Obama didn't want to share the ticket with Hillary. She may have out shined him. To me it's obvious she wanted to be VP. Look at Bills behavior and attitude. There was some glimmer of hope that he would pick her to be his running mate.

I am still not sold on either candidate.

  8. First off, let me respond to the grand poobah of this very humorous, although rarely informed website... it does not take a psychic to see that the libs are deserately trying to make up for the great mistake of not running the Obama/Clinton ticket. It was a no-brainer, I told my wife on that fateful day "If BO picks Hillary, they can start decorating the White House tommorrow" and I truly believed that to be true. I sure am glad he didn't choose her,and I'm especially glad that he opted for the "Veep of Change", Mr. Biden... 35 years of change!! And to ERIN... of course HC wanted to be the veep, it's in her blood. She is a very competitive, driven individual who hates to lose (all good qualities mind you) It's her sense of entitlement that turns off intelligent people to her tired old rhetoric. And lastly, she has a Loooong way to go before she is anywhere near being the President Pro Tempore of the Senate (I assume that's what you confusedly referred to in your saying she would be "the second most powerful person in the world at that position). In fact she is #70 in that particular line. Look, no matter how you spin it, HC doesn't want to be the fourth most powerful person in the US(the actual place of the Senate leader in the line of succession) she wants to be the FIRST... besides, she has already been the second most powerful person in the US when she was sleeping with the President! Does that mean Lewinski was the third highest? Anon106 hit the nail on the head this time... maybe you should make her a guest blogger...debate IS the soul of intelligent conversation afterall.

  9. Why would you imply that Palin had psychic power when she simply revealed a "thought". She just gave her opinion, that's it, but you just can't stand the fact the RepubMcCains fired a shot heard across the bow when they chose Governor Palin. Nobody in the Democratic Party saw it coming, nobody was prepared to react...KAPOW! Right in the Kisser of Obama and Biden. Obama blinked and the Republicans pounced. This election is more fun than any in recent history.

  10. Nope, I’m not confused at all. I said most powerful, not who’s in line for the presidency—there is a difference. The Senate Majority Leader actually has more power over the daily business of the Senate and legislation than the President Pro Tempore. The SMJ has more political influence than the PPT.

From good old Wiki: “The Constitution designates the Vice President of the United States as President of the Senate. The Constitution also calls for a President pro tempore to serve as the leader of the body when the President of the Senate (the Vice President) is absent. In practice, neither the Vice President nor the President pro tempore—customarily the longest-serving (most senior) Senator in the majority party—actually presides over the Senate on a daily basis; that task in given to junior Senators of the majority party, in part so they may learn proper parliamentary procedure. For these reasons it is the Majority Leader who in practice manages the Senate.”

  11. No ERIN you cannot change history just by saying it over again. you said, and I quote "she would have more power as a future Senate Majority Leader. In fact, she would be the second most powerful person in the world in that position, which would make her the most powerful woman in the world. Not bad." which is sadly incorrect, as I said.

  12. Fro some reason my entire response did not post... here is what was missing. Power in the US Government is derived from the express wording of the Constitution, not from the customary practices of the legislature, and it certainly doesn't come from some high school students posting in wikipedia. The real power comes from Section 3 "The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.
The Senate shall chuse their other Officers, and also a President pro tempore, in the absence of the Vice President, or when he shall exercise the Office of President of the United States." The SMJ is more of a custodial position than anything else. The only real power held by the SMJ is the power that comes from long-standing political connections. For proof of this, look no further than the current SMJ Harry Reid... Power do you say??

  13. In my opinion, Hillary Clinton's power derives not so much from the position she holds right now, as from the person she is. I'm not terribly fond of her policies and attitudes, but she has incredible drive and grit. That's why she is, arguably, one of the most powerful women in the world. I don't know how we could quantify power to make mathematical comparisons, but I think she's qualified to be President of the United States, and that puts her right up there.

I think it's a good bet that Sarah Palin cannot read people's minds. But she's apparently a pretty good hacker. Maybe it's just the geek in me, but I'm intrigued by the prospect of a female Vice President who can hack into the Internet activities of those who would blow us all to smithereens given the chance. Makes me think of Bat Woman. Talk about power! As for whether she is qualified to be President of the United States, I'm not sure yet. I'm waiting for the debates -- not with news commentators, but with Joe Biden.

  14. Anon, the same information is on the U.S. Senate website if you don’t like Wiki.

You and I can quibble over power rankings all day; it’s not really an argument that interests me or that I’m concerned with winning. The point of my original comment—and I apologize if I didn’t make it very clear—is that there are a number of positions Hillary could hold that would allow her to wield more power/influence than as VP. Senate Majority Leader and Supreme Court Justice are just two possibilities that have already been mentioned in news stories/blogs.

  15. erin... once again custom is not power. the problem with blogging by simply restating someone else's writings is that you lack the fundamental knowledge that is required to to fully understand the importance of your words. And don't worry, we will not quibble, because I am done here. It is useless to debate with repeaters. I have spent much of my life studying the Constitution, and in fact am a Constitutional Juris Doctor. I have spent time with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and unlike you understand the power structure as it truly works, not as certain politicians or political writers would have you believe. There IS NO power greater than that granted by the Constitution. And finally, anyone who can say they TRULY believe that HC would rather remain a Senator than be VP should really keep their thoughts to themselves.

  16. Anon, feel free to back your claim of credentials with an actual name so we can believe you.

Erin is right: Senate Majority Leader is a much more powerful position than President Pro-Tem. Senators covet SML, not PPT, because SML is where the power to shape the agenda lies. Sure, PPT is powerful if the Pres and VP get shot, but in practical, day-to-day government, SML is where it's at.

And I do take a little offense at suggesting that Erin lacks fundamental knowledge of how our government works. Erin certainly knows more about the federal government than Sarah Palin. ;-) The problem with blogging is that anonymous individuals like yourself feel too free to unsociably and unnecessarily insulting instead of just sticking to the facts. If you were really an expert, you wouldn't feel the need to lace your arguments with insults. Your facts would speak for themselves.

  17. While I must agree with the Juris Doctor on the Constitutional issue of the VP, truth of the matter is the power the VP welds is derived from the President, not the Constitution.

If the President wishes the VP to be engaged in national affairs then it happens, if the President chooses not to have the VP engaged then the VP is not.

Compare the Vice Presendencys of Dick Cheney and Harry Truman. Cheney welds tremendous power while FDR kept Truman in the dark and powerless. For example, Truman was unaware of the A bomb until he became President.

So although the Constitution establishes the office and duties of the VP It does not establish the political or practical power of the VP, that comes from the President.

  18. " . . . you lack the fundamental knowledge that is required to to fully understand the importance of your words."

I don't have a JD, but I did graduate With Honors from South Dakota State University with a B.A. in political science (Spanish, too) and took my Con Law with the esteemed poli sci prof Dr. Bob Burns. It's been several years, but I like to think I remember a thing or two from my degree. ;)

“ . . . anyone who can say they TRULY believe that HC would rather remain a Senator than be VP should really keep their thoughts to themselves.” I didn’t say I believed it at all. I said it was a possibility; you have inferred that I believe it. And frankly, I would think your years of studying the Constitution would give you a better appreciation of freedom of expression than to tell someone to enact a personal gag rule.

  19. Carefull Erin, you are showing me the things I like about Sarah Palin. You and I may be polar oposites on many social issues but I do truly love your grit. Don't ever change!

  20. Obama didn't pick Hillary IMO because he was scared of her power-wise and also didn't want to deal with Bill. It would have essentially been a three-way presidency. Also, I don't think he wanted to share the ticket with someone who would take some of the shine away from him. And also, I really don't think Obama and Hillary like each other. Biden was a safer choice for Obama. BUT, he goofed big time. Obama/Hillary probably would have won. Not going with her opened the way for the surprise of Obama's lifetime - Palin.

And I couldn't be more thrilled!

Oh, does she have psychic powers? Of course not. Even I could see this!

  21. In my opinion, the real killer Dem ticket would have been Clinton for President and Obama for Vice President.

I still think Obama has a better chance of winning the election than McCain. But not much.
