...AG Long Cancels Check?
KELO reports this morning that ciruit judge Kathleen Caldwell has dismissed the state's case against Brandon legislator and abortion-crusader Roger Hunt. The reasoning posted in the Sioux Falls paper sounds fishy -- "Caldwell ruled that Promising Future did not raise or collect money itself, and made a contribution, not a 'disbursement'" [Ben Shouse, "Judge Rules in Hunt's Favor in Case of Secret $750,000 Contributor to Abortion Ban Effort," that smutty Sioux Falls paper, 2007.08.13] -- but perhaps we can rest easy knowing that we won't be paying USD $35,000 for a legally irrelevant public opinion survey. (Hey, we can pay one more teacher with that money! Whoo hoo!)
Update: SD Watch provides the full text of Judge Caldwell's ruling -- good reading for the truly curious. (Heads up -- it's a PDF file. Also archived here.) Take a look, weigh in with your opinion of Secretary Nelson's chances of winning on appeal!
