Dave Gassman -- Gas Man!

Speaking of Canova, that reminds me that District 8 legislator Dave Gassman and his wife Rhonda have bought the Central Farmers Co-op in Canova. According to KJAM, the Gassmans took over the place September 1, pumping gas, changing oil, fixing tires and batteries, and selling lumber and paint ever since. Well, not Dave and Rhonda personally -- John Zens is managing the Co-op while Dave and Rhonda wheel and deal to expand the business to carry gates, feed bunks, and fence (again, says KJAM).

Sounds like the Gassmans are building a regular Fleet and Farm in Canova. Could it be Rep. Gassman is trying to increase his cash flow in anticipation of another expensive campaign against GOP big-spender Russ Olson and his donors? If so, drop by the Co-op and buy some 2x4s -- with campaign contribution limits raised (thanks a lot, Pierre), Rep. Gassman and his fellow Dems will need all the support they can get!

  1. I doubt Dave is doing this in order to fill his coffers... I've known the man for over 15 years. He's a huge supporter of the Canova community and has done a lot for the town.

If anything, this is a great example of someone who's bucking the trend against small towns losing out on essential services, especially when it comes to farming and agriculture. I imagine that farmers around the Canova area will be more apt to buy their fuel, seed, etc. in town, than go 10 or 25 miles away to do the same thing.

  2. And I'm all for "bucking the trend" and fighting to save local economies. Keep up the good work, Dave!
