Whether they're an independent nation or not, the folks building the Pretty Bird Woman House on the Standing Rock Reservation can still use some help. They're three-quarters of the way to their goal of $70,000 to build a new women's shelter to replace the one an arsonist burned down this year.

If you're scrambling for those last-minute gift ideas, don't make that last dash over to Wal-Mart. Uncle Hjalmar already has socks. Skip the traffic, stay home, log on, and make contributions online.
