Dakota War College Knocks Romney Out of Race

Dakota War College this morning:

Time to Unite Behind McCain

...For all his flaws and questions being raised out there by some conservatives, I have to admit that I don’t have any problem getting behind McCain.

He will have to prove himself. He will need to articulate his conservative vision. On those few issues where he’s wrong, he’s going to have to explain himself, and at least concede that he might have to find a middle ground on those issues for those supporting him.

But otherwise, This conservative can support him. And for the sake of retaining the presidency in the hands of the Republican party, I hope you can too. [emphasis mine; Pat Powers, Dakota War College, 2008.02.07]

Mitt Romney, this noon:

If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror [Mitt Romney, addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference; quoted in Liz Sidoti, "Romney Suspends Presidential Campaign," AP news, 2008.02.07].

Vin Weber, former Minnesota Congressman, now former Romney campaign advisor, told NPR's All Things Considered this afternoon that Romney made this decision overnight. Weber says Romney hadn't said anything about dropping out as late as yesterday. Weber says Romney had to have made this decision overnight, if not this morning.

The conclusion is clear: Romney knew that to win, he'd have to step it up and win the primaries straight through to the last vital battle right here in South Dakota. Romney read Dakota War College and saw he didn't stand a chance. No Powers, no South Dakota. No South Dakota, no nomination.

Dakota War College -- King-Breaker! Good work, PP. ;-)

  1. It probably didn't help that he was an incredibly long-winded and BORING speaker.
