Hmm, they look like strangers to me, but I just noticed them staring at me from an ad for the Heartland Technology Center on the back of PrairieBusiness magazine.
ReplyDeleteIt's a little something they call a stock photo. Need happy senior citizens? Got it. Need hip 20-somethings? They have that too. In this case, someone bought the successful entrepreneur package.
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the large size, I'm pretty sure someone photoshopped them together. They weren't photographed together. The guy in the gray shirt seems to be at a different resolution. They took several different images and combined them.
In journalism, it wouldn't fly. But in marketing, this is commonplace. It's cheaper just to buy a few stock photos than to hire a photographer, lighting crew, models, book a location, etc.
So how does one calculate the real cost of inauthentic and thus ineffective advertising?
