- Madison Junior Tennis Open (starts in 20 minutes!)
- KJAM ping-pong ball drop (win a grill! 4 p.m. today!)
- DSU Grill-Out (4–6 today... anyone have a location on that?)
- Hawaiian Luau and Wine-Tasting (this evening, Madison County Club, Lake Herman!)
- 10K, 5K, and Egan Avenue Mile (Saturday 8 a.m., downtown)
- Mart in the Park—locally made crafts! (Library Park, Saturday, 9–3)
- DSU Scholarship Car Show (Montgomery's/Lewis parking lot, Sat. 11–1)
By the way, Crazy Days weather: that dawn rain and wind was the last gasp for the nasty weather. Highs today and tomorrow: 85 sunny degrees. Light NW breeze today, light SE breeze tomorrow. Yahoo!
Actually, the ping-pong ball drop is separate from the grill... We're doing a CD toss for that.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'll be doing part of my show in the great outdoors today so stop on over and say hi. Just... no mooning please! LOL
Several months ago you had an idea for hosting Beadle Days to honor General Beadle including a National VW Beetle Festival, instead of Crazy Days. I think Crazy Days gives communities a bad image, but your idea for a national auto festival that ties into our educational past makes sense. Please regenerate the idea and hopefully it will grow legs.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anon! We're working on getting rich first so we can afford to take time off and coordinate it. By our rough calculations, doing it right would require 1 FTE, or Erin and me working half-time throughout the year. We might have to find an alternative site for the music festival component of the plan, but there are lots of nice pastures in the county (remember Bash in the Grass in Brookings?). Hmm... maybe if we wait a few years, we can put our daughter in charge of it... ;-)
ReplyDeleteI just got back from Crazy Days this noon. Hate feeling like I'm too critical of Madison, but the event seemed to sum up our current state of things. What a depressing feeling it was to see a few tables out of little interest and people out, apparently desperate for something to do. As a kid I remember the streets bustling. Does anyone know the status of the Main Street Program?
ReplyDeleteShould say someone told me the place was hopping on Friday. Maybe I was there at the wrong time.
