Here's a shout-out—make that sing-out—to all my old singing friends: KJAM alerts me that the South Dakota Honor Choir is organizing an Honor Choir alumni concert to celebrate the event's 35th anniversary. 48 hours of rehearsal, then a joint concert with this year's high school Honor Choir on Friday, August 1, 7:30 p.m., in the Great Hall at the Washington Pavilion. Now that will sound good!
I fondly remember my own Honor Choir experience: 1987, hot summer days at School of Mines, the hundred-some of us eager young singer getting to perform at Mount Rushmore and downtown Rapid City. What a thrill it was to have a few days when the most important thing in the world was supporting with the diaphragm and hitting those notes just right (o.k., that, and meeting cute girls from Britton and Belle Fourche). Ah, youth and music!
This year's program looks great—lots of good stuff in Latin (that's my standard for good music! ;-) ), challenging compositions... whether you're an alum looking to bust the rust off your pipes and lend a voice or just a listener looking for an evening of good music, the Washington Pavilion will be the place to be on August 1.

No, I'm afraid I was spoken for on that date. But I suspect it was loads of fun!
