Hey, don't forget, the South Dakota Blogosphere Open House is this Saturday! I can't promise Elvin Bishop and a beer garden, but I can promise a splendid view of Lake Herman and engaging conversation.
Remember, if you're reading this, you're invited. The SD Blogosphere Open House is for everyone connected to this odd little prairie community of writers and readers. You don't have to be a Madville Times leftist. You don't even have to be political. It's a chance for everyone in South Dakota who uses blogs to make a point, share ideas, meet people, or just have laugh to get together and do the same thing in person. Authors, commenters, quiet readers—all are welcome!
Show up any time from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. When folks get hungry, we'll fire up the new fire pit! Come as you are, bring chow to share if you like. Oh, and you might want to bring your favorite lawn chair!
If you haven't already, just give me a quick RSVP shout, just so I can round up enough hot dogs and pop for everyone. See you Saturday!
Let's see... I'm running the Egan Avenue 5K at 8... helping out with our KJAM "Pool of Treasures" giveaway at noon... broadcasting baseball games at 2:00 and 4:30 and possibly board-opping a third game at 7:00.
ReplyDeleteIf I don't drop dead from the race, I'll probably drop dead from exhaustion sometime during the day. I don't see how I'm gonna swing coming out this weekend.
By the way, Cory, you're welcome to come out Saturday morning and give moral support... or laugh your butt off at my attempt at running!
ReplyDeleteI laugh at no one who makes such a worthy effort. Keep your head up and your eyes on the finish line! (If it helps, think of ice cream -- that always helps me in the late miles! :-) )
ReplyDeleteIce cream is always a good thing. Joe's commander in Iraq always talks about ice cream getting him through deployment in his emails to all the family back home. Anyways, myself and the three little ones should be there and I'll be bring something that includes zucchini. My attempt at gardening keeps producing them...

Just don't put zucchini on my ice cream.
ReplyDeleteZUCCHINI ICE CREAM
ReplyDelete1 envelope of Knox unflavored gelatin
½ cup cold water
3 cups peeled zucchini, shredded
1 cup honey
2 13 ounce cans evaporated milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
enough whole milk (or cream) to make 8 cups
Soften the gelatin in the water. Simmer the zucchini in the honey (carefully) until tender. Stir in the softened gelatin. Then, add the evaporated milk and the vanilla. Mix well. Add the milk (enough to make 8 cups). Cover and chill for 4-5 hours. Beat well with the electric mixer. Pour into a mold (or loaf pan); cover and freeze until "mushy". Remove from freezer and beat until smooth. Return to mold and cover with wax paper. Freeze until firm.
Matt Groce
Use well
That does not sound good... if anything, Mr. Groce, that'll make me run faster... as in running AWAY from that concoction!
