I get the scoop straight from my wife's Facebook status: Mochavino, Madison's renamed and revamped downtown coffee house, reopens tomorrow (Saturday, March 20)!
I shouldn't be excited about this. I don't drink coffee. I don't drink wine. But Erin does... and we both love third places. We're glad to have a third place reopening on Madison's Main Street. Expect Madison's bohemians and artistes to be out in full force.
Mochavino: come sip, come chat, come see and be seen. Or plunk your coffee down in front of your computer and send the first tweet from Mochavino. (I haven't heard for sure, but co-owner Shaun Bader is a computer guy: they've got to have Wi-Fi, right? ;-) )

Update 2010.03.20: Third places may be taking first place in Madison: the Madison Area Arts Council just announced its new "Third Place Nights" project! Once a month, come write, paint, sculpt, knit, and otherwise art-ify, philosophize, and socialize with your creative neighbors!

On behalf of the Madison Area Arts Council, welcome to Madison!
ReplyDeleteWe're glad to have you as part of our larger community, and as a new 'Third Place' too!
Yes, Third Places are starting to come along in Madison, and we're pround that our Council will be a leader in making this community vision a reality.
ReplyDeleteI should also mention, it was discussions with Cory and Erin that sparked this idea, they've been advocates of 'Third Places' for some time, so be sure to thank them both for their efforts!
Third Place Nights will be free & open to everyone, all talents, all walks of life, just a forum, a place to connect, create, and otherwise meet and work with like-minded friends.
Check out our free & open website for more, and stay connected with us, as we continue to redefine the local arts scene, here in Madison!
We'll look forward to seeing everyone at Third Place Nights.
Of course we have Wi-Fi. That was one of the first things we did to the place :) Since you don't drink coffee or wine, do you at least drink beer? If so, we have 20 different beers on the menu with more to come. I am somewhat of a beer snob and I hope to always have a selection that you cannot find anywhere else in Madison. I hope to be able to persuade the standard beer drinkers (Bud, Miller, Coors) to give some of these other beers a chance. Please, come in a ask for me (Shaun) and I will do what I can to learn your palette and suggest beers that you may like. I also plan on doing Beer Flight Nights which will allow patrons a chance to sample new beers to better expose them to the wonderful tastes and smells that can be found in beers from all over the world.
ReplyDeleteActually, offer me coffee, wine, and beer, and I'd pick beer last. I'm also notoriously cheap. ;-)

Cory - please contact me at your earliest convenience. I want to go over some ideas on what we can do to help get some events going and get the community involved.
