Hyperion's calling its proposed refinery "green" is kind of like Broin Ethanol's calling itself "Poet": a big messy industry cloaking its real nature by co-opting a kinder, gentler word.
Flat fact: oil is black and yucky. Don't believe a left-wing liberal progressive secular humanist? Fine. Listen to the most tolerable South Dakota right wingnut*, Steve Sibson, who points us this morning to an article on how refineries and those vaunted Alberta tar sands just aren't green. Heck, Sibby's even willing to cite concerns about global warming as reasons we should not follow Governor Rounds in his blind, sticky embrace of Big Oil.
*What a complicated political spectrum we have in this state. Sibby goes green, Joel promotes mass transit, Jon boosts quasi-income tax, and left and right alike oppose the stimulus package... labels just can't keep up!

So a friend of mine made this rap a few years back, and I have to tell you
I have friends over the years who went there and tell the same boring
stories, LOL.

Doesn't anyone see the" ridiculocity" (my word) of putting an oil refinery on farm land? What is happening to the "bread basket"? I'll tell you. SD is not the only state to be invaded by big oil. Illinois and other spots are having eminent domain endorsed in order for oil to put pipelines under their land. SD is the only one with a refinery.
ReplyDeleteMy ancestors are buried in the local cemetary -- what happens to their graves?? No answer from Hyperion.
At least Indian bones can stop a development cold but not Anglo bones.
