Noem Party of Death Panels Tells SHS "Stop Scaring Seniors"

The rankest hypocrisy from yesterday's DakotaFest debate: in response to Stephanie Herseth Sandlin's statement that Kristi Noem has supported privatization of Social Security and Medicare, Noem cries, "Stephanie, stop scaring seniors!"

That's funny: I don't recall Noem telling Sarah Palin or local Republicans to stop scaring seniors with Palin's outrageous lies about death panels during the health insurance reform debate. I don't recall Noem criticizing Senator Chuck Grassley for saying health insurance reform would "pull the plug on grandma." I don't recall Noem calling her fearless leader John Boehner to task for his hyperbolic scare tactics that health insurance reform would ration care and weaken Medicare.

I guess in Noem's world, it's o.k. to scare seniors, but only if you're a Republican.

  1. Yes, those warnings about death panels were absolutely false...in the liberal mind.

Meanwhile, in the real world, they have been and continue to be substantiated. There's just no getting around them in a government-run socialist system.

Only in the mind of a socialist does socialism actually work well.

  2. Bob, stop scaring seniors.

(And seriously, five links to your WorldNetDaily clone site? I thought you were referring us to the real world.)

  3. What a load of bull Bob! Insurance companies have been rationing care in this nation for years, We are most likely the most rationed in the world. "Death Panels" IS a scare tactic plain and simple.

  4. Corey:

I do not know if it is still in the version of Obama care (because I have not read it) that is now law, but in the original version of the bill there is a "Mandatory end of life counseling" clause.

  5. In Obama's own words, If you are terminally ill you may have to come to embrace hospice.

  6. Let's be clear. Anyone dying is going to have to face the fact sooner or later, and so will their family. I've been through this numerous times in my life, and we would have been lost without the help of the medical professionals who guided us all through it.

To politicize this sacred moment in life is the absolute worst form of cynical politics, and Ellis beating the now completely discredited "death panel," drum borders on the profane. He should be ashamed of himself.

  7. Perhaps reality eluded you once again, Barry, but when an insurance company makes a decision not to provide coverage for certain goods or services, that is something you can take up with them as a consumer; and as a free American, you always have the right to stop doing business with them. You might even lobby your elected representative to force them to do so.

But if the government is calling the shots, who can you turn to? You can try to negotiate with 800 levels of government bureaucracy (with more being added all the time), but if you think that will be even as easy as working with insurance companies (much less better), you've been smoking some of Bob Newland's preferred blend.

If government says "No," you have no where else to turn...except to your funeral home.

As a free American, I'd rather die because I was unable through my own resources to afford something better, than be told by my own government that I cannot have it. What a pity that you long for the life of a sheep.

    Welcome to socialism, baby!

  8. Actually, Bill, it is the socialists who have politicized death, putting it in the hands of unaccountable government bureaucrats. You should be ashamed of cheering this un-American system, as the "death panels" have only been discredited in the liberal mind. In the real world, they march on and are getting closer.

  9. It would take more than a little weed for me to believe your propaganda Bob. I would need to be on a steady diet of Ken Kesey's Kool -aid before I could ever start to buy into your malarky. :-)

  10. In fact Bob The health care bill passed this spring was a result of consumers lobbying their elected representatives, we just had to wait for a Democrat congress before that lobbying stopped falling on deaf ears and something was done about it.

  11. As usual, Ellis is so bone-headed, he misses the whole point. I'm going to follow my own advice here and ignore his ignorant, histrionic demagoguery.

    No harm done.

Nobody listens to him any more anyway.

Not even the Tea Partiers he presumes to lead.

  12. I was all set to write a response to Bob on the similarities of "death panels" and what the insurance industry does already. Then I read Barry's comment and realized it was already said and most succinctly.

So then I was thinking about what I could write that would add to the conversation and read Bill's last comment. So I'll just save it for another day.

  13. I also like to scare seniors. I approach them and whisper in their ears - Do you know how much college will cost you? How many years you will be in debt? And then you have to work for 45 straight years!

  14. That's your problem, Bill: you've been ignoring the real world far too long, as have your fellow liberals.

Come on, Bill. You know somewhere deep down that honoring the Constitution and following the American way is really the best way. Surrender to what is right.

You can only stay cloistered in Marx's fantasy world so long...

  15. Thad: now that kind of senior-scaring wins my full approval. Just ask anyone who had me as their senior English teacher!

  16. Cory: That last comment from Bob, it was computer generated, wasn't it? You did it. You went ahead and wrote a program that can generate Ellis like responses. Didn't you? come on admit it. You said you could and I believe that you have blocked Bob and are just generating bobments.Right?
I wish that Jim would have written his comment, I would much rather read him then your bobments :-)

  17. Actually, Barry, I have such software... but no, the above was Bob's doing. Authentic "bobment"... though you are correct that such statements sound so absurd that you can't help but wonder if they are really satire.

  18. Yes, I would have enjoyed reading Jim's response too, Barry/Cory. Sorry if I inhibited it in any way. That was not my intention. Let 'er rip, Jim... please? Pretty please?
